SAN DIEGO — Porn star turned politician Mary Carey is officially launching her second gubernatorial campaign on the San Diego State campus today at noon. After finishing tenth in last year’s recall election, Carey joins the race with incumbent Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Democratic challenger Phil Angelides as an independent write-in candidate.

Due to California law, a gubernatorial candidate must have 164,000 signatures to appear as an independent on the ballot.

Carey has been featured in mostly tongue-in-cheek segments in the mainstream media and has been a recurring guest on Fox News’ “Hannity & Colmes,” Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” MSNBC’s “Donny Deutsch Show” and Howard Stern.

The 26-year old Carey, born Mary Ellen Cook, intends to focus her campaign to appeal to younger voters whom she feels have been neglected by the California state government.

In the past, Carey has identified herself with the Republican Party, attending several fund raiser dinners with the likes of Vice President Dick Cheney and other party notables. While she’ll be running as an independent, Carey said that she considers herself fiscally conservative and socially liberal, adding that if elected she would instruct her administration to “leave the adult industry alone.”

Carey is beginning her “Shock the Vote” campaign with an appearance on the SDSU Free Speech Steps at noon sponsored by The Koala, the university’s humor magazine.

At the hour-long event, Carey is going to announce her political platform in conjunction with a voter registration drive. There will be a raffle for all in attendance, and prizes include a free Sirius satellite radio and subscription, a personal dance from Carey and 10 fill-in-the-blank novelty state pardons for any crime committed in California.

However, Carey will not be the only politically active porn star speaking at SDSU. Retired military officer, free speech advocate and billed as the oldest working man in porn Dave Cummings will speak to students about the importance of voting and political involvement.

Carey will hold a question and answer session for members of the media 30 minutes prior to her speech at 11:30 a.m.

Under an exclusive performance contract with Legend Video, Carey’s campaign slogan is, “Finally, a politician you want to be screwed by.”

BOCA RATON, Fla. – In a continued effort to ramp up its editorial staff, Penthouse Media Group has tapped P.J. Lucas as associate publisher for Penthouse Magazine.

Diane Silberstein, president and publisher of Penthouse, lauded the hiring of Lucas as the first associate publisher since Penthouse was acquired by Marc Bell in 2004 from former owner General Media.

“Penthouse is a lifestyle brand with tremendous global recognition, and we are bringing in executives who understand the nuances important to men and marketing to them," Silberstein told XBIZ.

Lucas comes to Penthouse from Golf World, where he served as associate editor. Prior to that, he worked for New York Magazine, Field & Stream/Outdoor Life, Men’s Health, Esquire and Footwear News.

“P.J. is a well-respected, results-driven executive who embraces the daily changing media menu, and he’ll lead our team of passionate sales executives, sharing Penthouse’s vision and executable multiplatform offerings,” Silberstein said.

SEATTLE – Falcon Foto has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the current and prior owners of Porn Kings and its affiliated websites.

The multimillion-dollar lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Seattle, Wash., alleges that the owners of Porn Kings infringed on its rights by using Falcon images on websites and free hosted galleries without a license.

Falcon seeks damages and injunctive relief from Porn Kings’ original owners John Does 1 and 2, subsequent owners Marvad Corp. and Roger Vadocz, Trey Hickey and E-Media Group, and current owners Lucas Bradfield and Noble Developments.

Licensing negotiations between Falcon Foto and the first owners of Porn Kings began in 2003, but according to the lawsuit, they failed to reach a purchasing agreement for Falcon-produced content. The suit further claims that the defendants used Falcon content regardless of their legal right to do so, and that Falcon content was allegedly passed along from each subsequent owner of Porn Kings, without licensing permission.

Falcon attorney Robert Apgood told XBIZ that at no point did any of the owners of Porn Kings have licensing agreements with Falcon.

Porn Kings affiliates that have sent traffic through a Porn Kings-owned free hosted gallery that featured unlicensed Falcon images could also be held accountable.

Porn Kings operates many adult sites, among them Gutter.com, Chubby.com, AdultPussy.com and StonerBabes.com.

Falcon is represented by Apgood and Spencer Freeman.

A Porn Kings representative would not comment on the suit.
